Inclement Weather Shelter Update:
Hats off to the shelters - they are running well beyond typical capacity to ensure no one is turned away because of a lack of beds.
Extra capacity and extra hours remain in effect at area shelters. The Tacoma Salvation Army, Nativity House, and the Tacoma Rescue mission with be open 24x7 with overflow capacity now through the weekend. The Youth Shelter is open for spending
the night, but the day shelter is day-by-day - but open today. New Hope Day Shelter in Puyallup and Freezing Nights Night Shelter are operating with normal hours.
This is pretty much the same as the last e-mail:
• Youth and Young Adult shelter at Beacon Shelter on Faucet and 13th in Downtown Tacoma (415 S 13th, Tacoma, WA) – for anyone 24 and under. Only 18-24 can stay the night. Day shelter is currently open 24 hours, but is day-by-day.
Meals provided. Folks can only bring in stuff they can hold. Has a no pet policy, but do it on a pet-by-pet basis.
• Single Men Shelter – Tacoma Rescue Mission downtown campus (425 S Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA). Increased capacity with 78 overflow beds (for 200+ beds). Staying open 24 hours per day at least through the weekend. Three meals a day
and can use all the facilities all day.
• Family Shelter at the Salvation Army – shelter for families. Send folks to 1501 6th avenue – from 4pm to 7pm . If it is later, it needs to be folks coming from the police, fire or search and rescue. Open all day through the weekend.
Families and couples are welcome.
• Adult Shelter at Nativity House Shelter – serves all genders. Prefer clients to sign in at 3:30 for inclement weather, but will accept clients 24 hours a day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. Have outside, tarped parking for
shopping carts of stuff.
• Puyallup Freezing Nights Adult Shelter – meet at 6:30pm at the New Hope Center – 414 Spring St., Puyallup, WA 98372.
• New Hope day Center - 414 Spring St., Puyallup, WA - open usual hours.
