Colleagues,
I have attached the public hearing information on the City of Tacoma's Comprehensive Plan 2019 amendment.  Because it is a pdf, the links will not work and you will have to cut and paste.  Here, though, is the main link:  www.cityoftacoma.org/2019Amendments.  Just click on this link and then scroll down to  II-3: Exhibit Packet 3 - Affordable Housing Action Strategy Incorporation into Comprehensive Plan.  It is only 34 pages.  Depending on your work/interests, you may want to review other sections of the Amendment.

Why is this important (from the Planning & Development Services Department on the above website:
The Housing Element is the city’s policy framework for housing issues. It integrates local policy decisions as well as requirements under the Washington State Growth Management Act, Pierce County Countywide Planning Policies and other applicable policy direction. While the Housing Element is generally consistent with the AHAS, the proposal would modify the overall policy direction of theHousing Element to reflect a more action-oriented stance as called for by the AHAS. The updates also strengthen the Element’s emphasis on equitable access to housing opportunities, and recognizes the link between housing and health.

What can you do?  You can speak to any of the Housing Element recommendations but I think there are two of particular interest to front line homelessness program & service providers - you can simply state that these are priorities for you - each would help keep people from becoming homeless:

  1. 3.1:  Expand tenants’ protections through a comprehensive policy.

  2. 3.2:  Create a range of resources for households experiencing a housing crisis.
