Did you know that MDC’s Energy Assistance program is offered year round? Any person living within the Tacoma city limits can apply for energy assistance now!
You may be eligible for energy assistance if you:
- Reside in the Tacoma City Limits
- Complete an application
- Have identification for everyone in the house 18 years of age or older
- Have social security numbers for everyone in the home
- Can provide 3 months of income history (Example: November, December, January)
- Have pay stubs showing gross monthly income or bank statements (Example: November, December, January)
- Have an award letter for fixed income (SSA, SSI) that covers the previous 3 months from the date of application
- If no income, a zero income statement will be collected
- Have a recent utility bill and an account that is open (Unfortunately we cannot assist with accounts that are closed or that are in collections.)
After we determine your energy assistance eligibility, we advise clients to continue paying on their utility bill as it may take 6- to 8-weeks for a pledge to appear on their utility account, unless a client has received an urgent notice from their utility
company.
