Clients who are facing eviction can be referred to the Housing Justice Project, a program of Tacoma Pro Bono, by calling (253) 572-5134.  You may also be able to e-mail Ashley Duckworth to refer.  I’m sure she’ll chime in. J

Clients who are facing eviction from subsidized housing (public housing, section 8, LIHTC, Rural Development, etc.), from a mobile home, or who have disabilities that prevent them from moving timely can be referred to CLEAR, NJP’s intake line, open weekday mornings 9:15 to 12:15 at 1-888-201-1014.

Tenants with prior evictions may be able to get an order limiting dissemination (OLD) of that eviction by tenant screening companies.  With an OLD, tenant screening companies could not disclose the existence of the prior eviction case or factor it into their recommendation.  It does not remove the eviction entirely; prospective landlords who do their own background check will still see the existence of the case.  Tenants are only eligible for the OLD if they won the case, lost the case but subsequently fixed the problem and were allowed by the landlord to stay in that apartment, or have “other good cause.”  Other good cause is not defined, but probably just the impact of the prior eviction on one’s current housing situation would not be enough.  See our packet here for more information and forms to use:  https://www.washingtonlawhelp.org/files/C9D2EA3F-0350-D9AF-ACAE-BF37E9BC9FFA/attachments/2772EC9E-75D3-4C38-94CA-3869A58DE3E5/6303en_how-to-stop-landlord-denying-app-because-of-eviction.pdf.

Subject: Homeless Coalition - Facing Eviction/ Homeless in car/ Holiday meals

Hello friends-

I am beginning to receive more and more phone calls from individuals and families facing eviction. Can somebody point me in the right direction as to whom I would refer these individuals to in order to keep from being evicted?I have three individuals (separate, different circumstances) living in their vehicle. All have income of at least $1300 monthly. All are single with no children in their custody. How can I direct them to find housing, of any kind? None are able to pay a deposit, so I assume I am looking for help with deposit assistance. All have a previous eviction. Again, where do I refer to for resources? What steps do we take to remove eviction and help with deposit?Last question. The holidays are quickly approaching. Does anybody know of any organization providing holiday meals and/or gifts? Maybe we should put a list together of those resources. Maybe there already is one. Please let me know.

As usual, thank you for your help!!
